Have you ever thought about starting new Christmas traditions for your family? I mean, we have the regular traditions — kissing under the mistletoe, sending Christmas cards, decorating a Christmas tree, etc. These are all well and good, but how would you like to start a new Christmas tradition — one that has special meaning to your family? If you think it’s a great idea too, take a peek at some of these ideas.
Starting new Christmas traditions for your family
There are many wonderful Christmas traditions that your family can participate in. You can start a new Christmas tradition cutting down your Christmas tree at a tree farm or even having a tree decorating party. Your family could start the tradition of writing a family Christmas letter to send out to family and friends or Christmas Advent Calendar tradition.
Any of these traditions are great ones to start, but if you would like something a little bit more meaningful, something that has more impact, or something that would benefit others, try one of these ideas:
Idea #1 — Spend Christmas day serving dinner in a homeless shelter.
Idea #2 — Invite church members, coworkers, and friends who spend Christmas alone to share in your Christmas dinner.
Ideas #3 — Instead of swapping family gifts, donate your Christmas budget to a charitable organization.
Idea #4 — Make and donate items to charitable organizations. Do you knit? Find a great list of knitting projects. Knit mittens, caps, scarves, Afghans etc for needy people.
Idea #5 — Help pass out food gifts or toy gifts with your local Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Any idea that will create fun and loving memories of Christmas spent together is a great tradition. But, when you start new Christmas traditions of helping others you have started a tradition worth carrying on.
